    Hi penny makes pounds

it took some doing but if you split the number up 0901 656 6000 you get:

I think this is where it comes from - some kind of 'show' on ITV-1?

I think someone has some explaining to do....

BTW you can get these numbers barred from your outgoing calls - theres a thread somewhere on the phones bit of the site that tells you how the trick is done. That way no one 'accidentally' calls them and you don't get a huge bill from someone's 'mistake' (do i sound bitter?)

Thankfully this cheap and tacky programming should be leaving ITV1 the end Of February.

Hi, I've got a load of calls to this number on my Ntl Bill that we didn't make.
I've contacted NTL and they say the only way calls that I didn't make could appear on my bill would be a fault with the line - but an NTL engineer that I was trandferred to says there is no fault.

Has anyone else got any experience of this? Any advice before I contact NTL again would be much appreciated.

The unfortunate thing is that NTL are right. With todays rating technology it is almost impossible for calls to appear on your bill that have not been made from your line. If there is an error than you will find it will affect all number types and not just 090xx.

If you have several calls to PRS on your phone bill and everything else on the bill is correct then someone/thing in your house is dialling it possibly a person, sometimes a computer or sky/cable TV or a monitored alarm system or an Amstrad Emailer.

If you have lots of incorrect calls (to all call types) then there is a greater possibility of there being an actual error with NTL's rating.
  • I think the level of complaint may be greater than we know. It took me just a few seconds to find these examples.

Firstly the advice given to people concernng the billing of 09 numbers is not correct. These numbers are used by the UK Premium Rate Industry to market and sell services.
They are covered by the Goods and Services Act.
Or in this case the gambling acts possibly.
The same consumer/legal laws apply to premium rate services as apply to any goods or services.
The fact that an 09 number was dialled on your line does not in its self constitute proof of a legal sales agreement for that service.
