I replaced 8 downlighters in my kitchen and purchased the Megaman 11W gu10's, as mentioned the main body is longer and wont fit a standard down lighter so for the little outlay I purchased these http://www.gil-lec.co.uk/products/Lighting/Domestic+Lighting/Energy+Saving+Lighting/Energy+Saving+Downlights/Fozz+Vog+Low+Energy+Downlight+Chrome/4236361569
Although it's an initial outlay in expense I'm well pleased with the overall results.
Very reasonably priced, cheers.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
It seems the Osram Decostar IRC MR16s are £1 cheaper than the Philips Masterline ES MR16s. Unless you have seen the Masterline for less than £4 each?
£4 each for Philips Masterline ES seems about the going rate at the moment. The ones I am using have been in for a year and a half and are used a lot. Before I switched to the philips, ordinary MR16s would last a few months. I was forever changing them
You might find a website that does quantity discount and free postage if you are buying in bulk. I don't have experience of the Osram Decostar ES but on the Osram website, they look to be similar to the Philips Masterline ES bulbs so could be worth a try if they are cheaper than the philips.0 -
We have eight 50W MR16 halogen spots in our main living area which are switched on a good deal as it's a north-facing flat and pretty dark.

In the hall we have six 50W GU10 halogen spots which are also switched on a lot as there is no window

Lightbulbs don't have thermostats.
Our last quarterly bill was £101 for electricity, no gas in flat: AFAIK that makes me a low user. My query regarding the maths was because £21 a month on just lighting as a percentage of the total bill did not seem right. It's a very dark flat so turning the lights off is not an option, hence I asked for advice on energy saving lamps.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Philips Masterline for £3 each plus postage! I am an eBay virgin so am going to e-mail now and check the postage is the same for a bulk buy.

Your lights are, as you calculated, seven-tenths of a one-bar fire. And paying £60 for lighting and only £40 for water, heating and other stuff is, as you say, very amusing. What was summer like in your flat? Sounds as if it would be hideous.0

I am starting to wonder if lights are part of the reason the ambient temperature never drops below 10C - underfloor heating courtesy of the flat below!I did vaguely look into energy saving bulbs before but, as my bills were already low, I haven't ever
I open all the windows daily year round so overheating has never been an issue; plus we are north-facing so don't get direct sun until late afternoon. As we face onto a public street and are on the second floor, I don't worry overmuch about security.
It's now a a bit of a challenge now to see how low I can keep my bills without having to compromise any further - we have had the heating on for up to two hours a day this winter, tho not on a daily basis. And it's all good practice for when we have a proper house: I will be insulating and timing like mad from day one! :rotfl:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
