homes under the hammer??

Ive noticed now they are going to auctions for houses being auctioned in june 2008, but the format of the programme, they show you the house, then the auction happens, then they go around with whoever has won the auction, and find out what they are going to do with it. Then they go back in 4 or 6 months to see whats happend to the property.

However a lot of houses, when the date comes up, when they show the house is after the auction, like july 2008 so the house has already been sold ar auction, is this how it as always been?

I suppose really it has got to be done like that otherwise they could be going round houses, viewing them and then the buyer could say, they dont want to take part in the programme.

I just feel a bit cheated because there is no way someone is going to be filmed making a loss, and its not in the shows interest to show someone making a boo boo.

whats your thoughts on this#??

Try watching 'Buy it, sell it, bank it' similar format. The last few I've seen are all around the middle of 08 and I think the last three all ended going back to unfinished houses due to cash flow problems and the like and had to take a stab at the likely rental value as the developer had decided it was going to be better to rent out in the current market.

I think they have always filmed the auction, asked winning bidders if they want to participate. They then film the state of the house and the meeting the winning bidder at the same time and edit it either side of the bidding (as it would be a tad tedious if you already knew :)). This series they seem to be being honest and saying "let's see who won at auction" rather than previous series where they said "let's see who will win...".

There have been a fair few occasions where people mess up or are glad to get out breaking even with a lesson learned (same as making a loss when the market was rising).

You don't watch it often enough. Last week they had some very bad cases of dodgy houses where people were breaking even or making a loss.

And you're discounting all the people who spend shedloads doing it up to sell and then put renters in - which means they'll have to do it up again to sell -

I think they started putting the date on because prices were starting to change, and because if you heard the phrase "now's a good time to buy property", when you're watching it present time and it's not, they've covered their backs.
Like all the property programmes, it's been a shameless influence on the property market. This programme should be called "We're showing you some property magnates (in the loosest sense of the term) buying property, why don't you do this too, even though you don't know what you're talking about."

Which is why you get conversation like this (which is what i really heard on one episode):

Presenter "So why did you buy an auction property?"

Subject "Because i'd watched your programme."

Which sums it all up really. Sadly people would beleive the man on the telly, and not see the reality. The bbc shamelessly ramping up a craze (like others obviously). Remember, this is cheap telly for them. The people who've bought the properties won't get paid for being on the programme, they are used, but the bbc will be paid. Notice now, it's credit crunch tv. All of it is utter, utter drivel - which we pay for.

    Some do!

Why's it not in the shows interest? This is first & foremost an entertainment programme with possibly a touch of educational/documentary element.

It's just as important to show the losses (people paying over the odds, people buying without seeing the property, etc) as it is the gains. The programme makers are not paid a percentage of any gain made on the property. Whether a gain or loss is incurred should not detract from the entertainment and certainly shows both sides for the education/documentary element.

Id have thought most people who made a c*ck up would refuse to allow themselves to be shown on the box. You get a contract to sign at the end of filming to allow it and if it were me Id not sign.
