I recently signed up to tiscali's home phone and internet package with line rental, only to discover they block the 18185 over ride, does anyone know of another over ride I could use?
Also I cancelled my talk talk bundle due to their inability to get me online, they wrote to me demanding a £70 cancellation fee aswell £29.99 connection fee. They have agreed the £70 is wrong as i was within the 30 day trial period but they can't do anything about the £29.99 connection fee.I asked why they asked for the £70, if they knew it was wrong and would i have got a refund on it when they realised this?
Anyway does any one know where i stand on this, as i feel i shouldn't pay it, due to their incompetence.
Any advice would be appreciated

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
As far as alternative override numbers are concerned you can try 18185s freephone number for non BT callers,as on their website. But the costs are different.
You can also use the 0844 override numbers as shown on this MSE website.
But remember with these 0844 numbers you get charged the moment you connect to the 0844 number even if you dont connect to your destination number. You get charged the connection fee plus the per min charge.
Tiscali rates for 0844 are here.

Thanks for the info Alan. I am a Tiscali user and the sneeky beggers let me use 18185 for 2.5 minutes and then it disconnects. What niggles me is the free 0808 number 18185 provide to stop this is 4p a minute instead of 1p a minute - no idea why they do this but I checked on the FAQ's and they don't mention this - bit naughty really. I am wanting to ring a friend in Cyrpus and even at 4p a minute 18185 free phone number to bypass Tiscali is still the cheapest which is probably what 18185 have realised and therefore bang up the charges by 300%.
Oh well, guess if I want to ring Cyrpus I have to bite the bullet.

That may be partly true but, of course, they also have to cover the cost of your call to their freephone number.Chaufeurse1956 wrote: »What niggles me is the free 0808 number 18185 provide to stop this is 4p a minute instead of 1p a minute - no idea why they do this but I checked on the FAQ's and they don't mention this - bit naughty really.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Hi Christine
Have you considered using MSEs dialthro' 0844 numbers via Tiscali .They cost more than on the MSE site cos Tiscali charge more but depending on the number better than 4p a min.
You could look at webcalldirect.com (or others) I havent studied this website for some time but they were good. 0 p to Cyprus with conditions or 3.7 p to a Cyprus mobile. You just need bband , no downloads, register and seems straightforward , no geeky bits.

When I checked Tiscali for 0844 numbers they are 6p a minute. The 0808 number provided by 18185 is now not working for me either for some strange reason!
I'll have to push them to set up their microphone on Skype then it's free all round!
Thanks again for your help Alan,

In my mind always worth keeping your line rental with BT because of things like this. You think you will save 50p or so on line rental only to find it eaten up by higher call charges that in the end cost you more than paying BT and using whoever you like.0

Tiscali is massively cheaper for me because I make a lot of calls to the US and they are also free in my total package of internet and phone - beats BT hands down for me. Luckily my friend in Cyprus has now signed up to Skype so we can chat away on there for free.
