plug in HD cable

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Some older V+ boxes (especially the old telewest TVdrive version) had faulty HDMI outputs. When we got a HD Ready set and tried to use HDMI we had to get the V+ box swapped as it wouldn't work on HDMI.
For using HDMI you also need to follow the instructions for setting it up or you could end up with no picture nd no easy way of changing back. It's my problem, it's my problem

I'm surprised your TV has an option for cable in the menu. In the menu where you select the input source does it list the HDMI ports? Do you know which one the V+ box is plugged into?
How did you switch it to output via HDMI if you can't get a picture on the screen? It's my problem, it's my problem

HDMI does not require any tuning on the TV.
The auto setup utility is for terrestrial signals or old school aerial outputs.
Scart is also tuning free.
You should be looking for a button called "source" or similar which will let you cycle through the different input sources.
One will be labled HDMI, maybe have a few of them, another will be scart.
The menu option is probably from standard worldwide software, believe the USA market can hook cable tv inputs directly into tv's and scan on a different signal range.
Hope this helps

The engineer did ours as we already had the TV, but it looked quite easy. Plugged in HDMI cable then went into the V+ options to choose the type of output for the TV.
BTW Virgin suggest 720 and not 1080 output, regardless of TV.0
