But if, say, London, didn't have any call centres, it wouldn't matter, would it? People could go and work in call centres in Sheffield or Wolverhampton, and buy houses there.
If nobody in London wanted to be a nurse, however, and you couldn't get treated when you were ill, who would get the blame - property developers, or the government?
Where do we draw the line then? who is "worthy" of state intervention to help them buy a house?.
Its a "fact" that in the past 11 yrs nurses, teachers etc have seen a significant pay increases, which I dont be-grudge them at all, however its wrong to keep giving more "perks" to small groups when the vast majority of the country is getting poorer..Lets be honest here they already get good pensions mostly paid by us the tax payer, if your off sick you get 6 months on full pay ,then 6 months on half pay ,teachers get 13 weeks holiday a year , come on get in the real world.......
London is NOT the centre of the universe, you can live outside London, what was wrong with the old nurses homes????
olly300 you remark about" how many primary school teachers are coming from abroad" where do they live???? what difference does that make?
The result will be yet more alienation and division in society, those who have and those who don't...0 -
There would be no need for these key worker schemes if the government would do away with pay scales that pay the same all over the country, and allow for local scales or individual contracts. I have a few nurses in the family and they all choose to live in cheaper areas where they are on a relatively good wage, but none of them could afford to live in the SE.They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0
