Please can someone offer some fast quick advice re sending a cv by email? URGENT!!

I have seen a job I want to apply for online. The closing date is tomorrow, I called the telephone number earlier today and explained I was interested but had only just seen the vacancy and is there anyway I could apply online.

Lady was very helpful, and said if I send my CV it will secure me a place, and she will then send an application form, for me to return asap in the post.

I did my cv, and emailed it, so I thought. I had to log off once sent, and have just read her response, and she said she is unable to open it.

What reasons could it be? I have a yahoo email, and sending it to a training website. I attached the file, in Microsoft Word, and we have windows Vista.

What else should I do? I really want to apply!

Can someone offer me some speedy advice so I can do it again tonight?

  • How about saving it as a PDF instead?

Open your cv in Word and File/Save As an .rtf document. Send the .rtf document to the agency. (.rtf = Rich Text Format, which every computer should be able to read by opening it in whatever version of Word they have.)

What version of Word do you have and what version of Word do they have?

If you have Office (Word) 2007, the default save format will be .docx

All older versions of word cannot open these type of files.... (although there is an addon that you can get to allow it, but they probably don't have it).

If you do have word 2007, go to file, save as and then choose the .doc Word 2003 file type.

rtf format is the best way to go, it's much more universal. 'save as...' then select rich text format.

I have changed it hopefully to rtf. Never done that before, and hopefully it will work.

How do I find out what year I have?

    Thanks everyone.

Be careful, you may lose some formatting in RTF, I would have gone for .doc myself.....

Saving in 'Word 97-2003' should be fine - why not send a couple of different formats, belt and braces!
