IF Good HSBC Not so

Thought I would share my experience today in case anyone else could benefit.
Got a balance increase from IF. Phoned them to ask about balance transfers, was told there were no offers currently but the customer retention department may help.
Spoke to them, they gave me a balance transfer, no fee, life of balance at 5.9%
Very happy with this as the amount I transfered I was paying 1.167% per month.

I have cleared my HSBC card back in Nov, called them in Nov, no offers, called in Dec, no offers. Called again today offer 15.9% for 6 months  . Asked to close my card and was done straight away no attempt to keep me. Thought I might be able to further reduce my interest outgoings but nothing doing for 3 months!

I think its unlikely current customers will get good deals anytime soon. Certainly not on the level they had been.

You seem to think a promotional rate is a right not a priveledge. Good on HSBC letting you close you account. Why should any organization give in the to their customers when the customer decides to throw his or her toys out of the pram.

Well it depends on how much they value that individual as a customer.

Erm in a word no, I don't, sorry if it seems like I do. I am jumping for joy at locking down some of my debt at 5.9%. I was holding out in case HSBC might decide to reward my loyal custom to this point (Been an account holder with them since I was 7 in the Midland bank, had my mortgage with them). I was holding out hoping to lock down the last bit of my debt that is on higher interest. Now I will wait 9 months and get a new offer. If one doesn't materialise, ce la vie, they lose a bit of custom I have a bit more interest to pay.

As for the throwing the toys out of the pram, well the advert on the line said to ask the custom advisor to help you save money. I asked, they couldn't offer anything suitable, I closed the account. No toys being thrown anywhere. I was suprised there was no attempt made at keeping me is all based on experience working at some big organisations were the churn rate is of paramount importance but I guess current economic climate means reducing debt holding could be of benefit to them.
