Spaceman we're talking about the weird price increases here, not normal price increases.

So Tesco increasing the price of 4-packs of Heinz Baked Beans recently by 50% is because the cost of production has increased? I don't think so. It's right for people to post these increases here to help people shop around.

me being cynical would say the prices of the beans have probably gone up by 50% to offset the cost to the retailer when they put the beans on promotion, recoup some of the money now, so they dont lose so much when they go on promotion, i know supermarkets have to have a product on sale a certain amount of days to be able to say, save £1 for example, be interesting to find out when tesco next have these beans on promotion, i would bet within the next month or so, Dave

WAITROSE!!!! cat food is cheaper than Asda now. Also it seems strange that all the supermarkets made the same 50% increase on canned plum and chopped tomatoes.

I always thought SP beans were about 8p. I was horrified the other week when I saw they are now 29p!!!

And SP sweetcorn went up overnight from 21p to 32p a tin.

And if it's not the stores putting up the prices, then the size of the product is rapidly shrinking - like Schloer, Les Cadburys Fingres, Loyd Grossman sauces.

Surely if one supermarket discounted this basic ingredients (canned tomatoes) they would get extra customers. I use loads of tins for spag bol , tom sauce etc. Sounds suspiciously like a cartel.

Well exactly - in other words it's a con. Just been to Sainsbury's their 4 packs of Heinz are £2.19

Still more than double what Asda and Morrisons are selling HP and Branston for, but significantly cheaper than Tesco.

you would have thought so, but hey who am i to wonder, but i suppose they see it selling at the higher price in other supermarkets, so they think well why not, i wished i sat on the board of the companys that makes up the prices, dave

I dunno about canned tomatoes but it's funny how Lynx deoderant is same price almost everywhere you go, and Gillette razor blades too. And both are miles more expensive than other less famous brands of the same product.
