£10 per page for past statements!!!

I recently requested the last 4 month's statements from my bank and was told that they charge £10 per page! Between my wife and I we were charged £120 for 12 pages. Both our accounts have never been in the red. Is this legal? Can I reclaim them? Have I got any case against them?

£10 per page?! I find that incredible! I would definitely go back to the bank and ask if that is correct. We usually charge per request for statements not for how many.
Moral of the story I guess is to keep the free statements that are sent.0 -

If you request duplicate statements, then they can charge whatever. If you make a DPA SAR request they can only charge a maximum of £10 for all the data.they hold on you (which would include transactions, in effect, statements)0

That is exactly what I would have said. If you pay for copy statements banks charge for that, however, if you send the Martin Lewis letter with the £10 statutory fee then you will get your data. That does seem a lot but it depends what you have sent to them. If you have sent a Martin Lewis letter template then I think a complaint is in order about how much they have charged you for them considering that the DPA SAR is £10 and laid down in the Data Protection Act 1998.If you request duplicate statements, then they can charge whatever. If you make a DPA SAR request they can only charge a maximum of £10 for all the data.they hold on you (which would include transactions, in effect, statements)0
