Fedex - hopeless!!!!

Got carded by Fedex on Tuesday, found the card on the mat when I got home from work, so rang them on Weds at 9am, to rearrange delivery for Thursday. They say they cannot guarantee any time, so please stay in all day! They don't deliver at weekends, so I have to take a day off work.
I was a bit annoyed because I had ordered a flatpack bed from a website and they had told me that they would let me know when the delivery would be - but they hadn't.
Got home from work on Weds, found another card, from Fedex, time 4:30 pm. The depot is only about 5 miles away, so I wondered why they didn't ring the driver and tell him I had rung in the morning to rearrange the delivery for Thursday.
Anyway, it's Thursday now, so I stayed at home all day. At 3 I rang them up and asked if they still intended to deliver it as I had to pick up my daughter from the chidminders later. They said that the bed would be delivered in the evening delivery! Great why did you make me stay at home all day then, I could have gone to work and got back by the evening.
The girl on the phone then said the parcels weigh 40kg, and we are going to leave them on the doorstep as for health and safety reasons we can't carry them inside! What a strange delivery company this is, it's not as if I wanted it carrying upstairs or anything. I thought Fedex delivered items to companies, surely they don't leave the items on the doorstep then? Anyway I said fine, I'm sure I can carry them in by myself, I'm a strapping lass.
They rang me back again an hour later saying the lorry had broken down and could I stay in all day Friday as well so they could try to redeliver again. I said no I have to work, if you can't deliver it today don't bother. So they said they would deliver it later. It's 5.30 now, they're not coming are they? I'd go to their office, but I don't think I could fit a flat pack bunk bed in my little old Polo!
My daughter is going to be gutted, it was going to be her new bunkbeds I had promised ages ago, but had only now gone on sale.

  • Why are FEDEX hopeless? You order a bed from cheapo website. The cannot give you a guaranteed delivery. Cancel order and go to bedlam shop. I have to do this occassionally as I foster. If child damages bed, I order new one, they deliver the same day and I make up new bed and they take old one away, to refurbish.

    Cannot see why they didnt send another van/lorry(pay another driver an hours overtime to do it) from the office and move the parcels into the back of that and carry on the delivery.

    Alternatively I am sure they have breakdown cover for such a large fleet of Uk vehicles that when returned to the depot, transfer it over to a new vehicle and carry on delivering

    Well they finally delivered it at 8pm. 3 out of the 4 boxes were ripped, so I am not sure that I have all of the bits.
    I know I should have refused delivery, but could not face waiting in for a redelivery another day. So I signed but wrote on the form that it was damaged.
    Warning to everyone - don't use Fedex!
    Freddie I think you're right, the bed I bought was around the same price as those on the Bedlam website, maybe I should have gone to them instead. The website I used was furniture-at-home.co.uk.
