  • How much money are we talking about here?
If it is a lot (thousands of pounds) you may find it difficult to get access to the account straight away.
They may direct you to their legal dept. who will issue you with an indemnity form to sign in case someone with the name on the passbook comes forward to claim the money.
If it is only a small amount they may pay out at sight of death certificate with covering letter and a copy of your birth certificate.
  • hi
the current total is just under 500 with 7 years worth of intrest to be added judging by last intrest added prob will increase balance to about 700..

so its not an awful lot of money but its still mine lol

i wondered if there was something i could sign in case 'someone else came forward'
as obvisly i will sign what ever they want as i know for sure its mine!!!

i just dont understand how she managed to open it in the first place!!!!

i dont intend to spend it but i feel i should move it into an account in my legal name

    i mean i have

my birth cert showing my mothers surname as french..
all three intials are the same as mine
proof that my nan died recently..
proof of the address on the book as my mum still owns the property and rents it..

Have you tried writing to National Savings to ask their advice? I'm sure they must have encountered this type of situation in the past, so should be able to help & advise. It might be an idea to send photo copies of relevant documents with your letter as intial proof of being who you say you are. Then if they ask for you to send originals at a later date you can do so.

    The address is
    National Savings and Investments
    Glasgow

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • thank you very much i will pop a letter in the post to them tomoz morning
    fingers crossed :j

  • Procedures for opening accounts were far different in 1990 to what they are today!!
