Can't get a Credit Card... why?

Hi,

I have been reading to many threads here and lots of advices, but still can not imagine why I dont get a Credit Card.

Ok, I am German, but I am staying here in Scotland for almost 5 years. I havent had any late payments, have my monthly income of roughly £1150, from the first day I have been over. My credit rating has been very good, acc to experian until I bought a car last June. I have financed the car over 4 years and the first 7 months are already done.

I do have a mobile contract, I am on the electrion role etc... Basicly Experian is saying, that I dont have anything working against my rating, which i up to fair (854), since it has fallen after the purchase of my car, which was expected.

The bank funnily is saying a CC would bring my score up, but they dont give me any, how stupid is that?!?!

Does anyone have an idea on what to do??? Its shocking when you consider that even students do get a CC.

Last time I have applied for a Credit card was just before I bought a car. So, that application is off the report (6 months)

btw: I had no problems in Germany either...

Thanks

Markus

Who have you applied to? You may just have been unlucky. Have you tried asking your bank exactly why they won't giv eyou one?

No, they never ever gave me a valid reason. Basicly the lady in the branch said, she couldnt give me a reason.

I have applied for the Halifax CC and one other last year. Cant remember which one. Sorry!

Whats special about the card mentioned? Flybe and Capital One?

Ok, the Capital is prob the 30% one, isnt it. Its expensive, but not when you propperly use it, isnt it?

    Maybe its worth a try.

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hate that already. Its asking for a House name, but my house has to have a name. It has an asterix and needs to filled out...

    Hi

Congrats on getting the Cap 1 card (I'm assuming you're talking about the 'classic' variety)

Just a note of caution, but I'm sure you're aware anyway:

because of the hefty APR don't ever use this card for long term borrowing, pay off in full each month. Doing this over the course of 1-2 years will give a nice boost to your credit file - it worked for me!

Yeah, I was reading that, but thanks anyway!

Actually the purpose is not buying too much, just using to get my Credit Score up.

The guy on the phone said, that would be the perfect card to do that ;-)

I alson know that this is not the best card, but its just for the purpose of buiding up my rating.
