no heating

Ive been living in my 3 bed house for 4 months now with no heating - as its been disconnected or something like that.
Its economy 7 and when i moved in told landlord i couldnt get it to work so landlord came out and said when she had a new meter put in the electric company removed the economy 7 box.
After several phone calls to the electric company i have now been told its nothing to do with them and that its a fault inside the house and that my landlord should have known this as there has never been any economy 7 meter in the house and there has never been one removed , they told me it all runs throught the same box and therefore if im getting electric all through the house then the heating would work. They told me my landlord is basically lying to me to save herself money as would cost a bit to have it fixed.
I really dont have a clue how it all works so for all i know they could just be saying it!

What sort of heating? Storage heaters?
Do you just have one meter?0 -
If the property was advertised as including heating then your landlord is contracted to ensure this is functioning correctly. Write to them by recorded delivery referring to previous conversations on this problem, and giving them a timescale for reply and resolution.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Look on the brightside, the worst of the cold weather is probably passed now.
As you've survived ok for the past 4 months, do you really need any heating? Think of the money you've saved on the leccy!"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
well thats the thing its actually costing us a fortune as we've had to buy portable heaters and they have been costing us a fortune being on all day plus we've had to light the coal firs which has also been costing a minimum of £30 a week so it would have saved us an awful lot had it been working.
I have contact the landlord but she insits she doesnt no whats happened and that its the electric company who is to blame.
To be honest dont really think she knows whats shes on about.
Yes its the storage heaters things that heat up over night then let heat out slowly through the day and yes only 1 meter here (the landlord says there used to be 2 but e-on have said theres only ever been 1)Wins for 2011: ........................

Well, storage heaters aren't cheap to run, especially in a 3 bed house, but they are only worth running if you have them on E7. You could spend another four months going back and forth between supplier and landlady, and, as said, by the time this is resolved, you won't be needing the heaters.
If you will be in this house next winter, I would ask the landlady to pay for an electrician to check the heaters out and ask the electricity supplier how much (may be free) it would cost to have an Econ7 meter. At least then, you would know what needs to be done. If landlady isn't prepared to sort this, and your contract doesn't say anything about heating, you may have to accept the situation or move.0 -

It doesn't matter if the electricity company is to blame, your landlord is ultimately responsible for maintaining the property in it's advertised condition. I have been a landlord myself - if you advertise the property as having a washing machine and it breaks, the landlord must replace it. The heating, if advertised, is part of the contract.
Write to your landlord as I suggested earlier. As a tenant it isn't up to you to do any more than pay for the utilities you have used, you don't have to deal with fixing stuff. Give your landlord a resonable timescale to reply, and state that you will be contacting the Citizen's Advice Bureau if they fail to act.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Alternatively either take a photo of your meter position and post it here, or give a detailed description so we can begin helping. The more vague you are the less people can input. Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help
