Reclaiming Personal Accident Plan I Did Not Know I Had

Options
I have been trying to reclaim my PAP back from Barclays. After cancelling my PPI i noticed a charge of £8.50 a month for PAP.
So i called barclays and they advised it was a personal accident plan which is for accidental death and injury.
So really it is very similar to a PPI.
They told me i had to go through the broker UNAT direct. So i did that.
They sent me a letter saying as i agreed to it i could not claim and they had a recording of me agreeing. Which i then asked for.
Even though i did agree to this, i really dont think iw ould have understood it properly and thought that i had to have it.
Am i still able to carry on claiming and if so what should i do next. I am so annoyed that i have been paying £8.50 for near on 10 years when i did not need or want it. So in reality ive wasted over £1000.

Any help and advise would be great

Did they supply the recording? Was there anything in the policy 10 years ago that you could not claim for? I am not really expert in this area so it may be worth asking this on the PPI reclaims boards.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

they supplied the recording which i could not listen to for some reason. So asked for another copy and it was the same thing. I then asked for a signed agreement and they are not replying. Can this be a good thing if they cannot supply a signed agreement
  • Hi, did you ever have any success reclaiming for the Family Accident Protection? I have found it on my old Barclaycard statements and remember being hounded and bullied into taking out the policy, even though I was in my early 20s, lived with my parents and had no dependents, in the end I just gave in and agreed.

    Thanks, Dan

What do you mean you thought you had to have it? what were you applying for when this PAP was taken out?

You havent wasted £1000, as its provided you with cover for 10 years.

  • I know, I was just interested to know the outcome, I was "sold" it through a cold call which went on for what seemed like hours and never wanted the insurance in the first place, but felt bullied into it. Then had hastle trying to cancel it - even though I had cleared my barclaycard balance and asked them to close the account, they wouldn't because they said they had to honour the card payments.
