Does anyone know anything about warranty?.....

....say for instance I buy an iron with 1 year manufactures warranty and it breaks after 2 months and I get a replacement iron. As I've got a new iron shouldn't I also be getting 1 years warranty with that iron?

As far as I am aware, the original 1 year warranty still stands, but I could be wrong.

I purchased a Samsung Fridge/Freezer a few years ago, and it came with a 3 year warranty. After 18 months it packed up and they replaced it, but 17 months later that one packed up too, when I phoned Samsung they said I was lucky that it still had a month left on the warranty...suggesting that the original 3 year term stood.

If it was from a shop and you got it swapped they'd give you a new receipt which then gives you a new 12 month warantee, if it was from a manufacturer I'd say it was up to them. I know some manufacturers do do this.

the manufacture offer is 12 months that is their agreement with the
end user no matter how many irons you get faulty they are carrying out their terms

I may be mistaken..BUT, I think that even if an item breaks down etc outside a warranty period, the law is still on the side of the consumer if it breaks before what would be consideerd a 'normal; lifetime for that product..might be worth getting proffesional advice from Trading Standards etc..good Luck!:beer:

I think they stick to the original 12 month warranty, otherwise crafty folks simply return the item at the 11 month point, collect a brand new whatever, then repeat the return at 11 months etc etc, meaning they would never again need to buy that particular item and also updating with the nearest equivalent for free each time.

Customer Services at ASDA told me some years ago that they had stopped their 3 year electrical warranty as they realised, for example, that TVs were being returned just before the guarantee expiry date and replaced with the newest nearest version. Apparently they realised they had had around 50 identical TVs returned at one point, so they tested them and found there was not a thing wrong with any of them, and rumbled that there was a 2 years 11 months and 3 weeks fiddle going on! They then reverted to a 12 month guarantee only and made sure they did not extend the life of the guarantee if an item was exchanged.

As usual, the few spoiled it for the many!

I have come across the same problem. Only if you get a refund and buy another item the warranty is for another twelve months because you then have a new sale and receipt. If it is exchanged the warranty is up to the end of the original. Seems crazy but I checked with Trading Standards and as Violetta says it stops people returning items just before the warranty is out when there is nothing wrong.

I think any claim would have to be backed up with an original receipt, for which an exchange receipt might not do.

Nope, it's 12 months from the purchase date of the original item, regardless of how many times that it is replaced in the mean time.

With some Hair Straightners we got from Boots, The warranty was for about 6 months and they kept breaking down just before the warranty was up. We would take them into our nearest Boots, they would instantly replace them for a brand new pair and give us a shiny new warranty to go with them! I don't know if its like this in ur case, but thought I would chip in...
