Anti Surge Cables

More and more people are selling the benefits of anti surge protection in your home and I finally decided to do it however I have an issue. These Belkins pure av leads are all well and good but they have one switch for the whole lot. Although this is fine for most stuff our telephone and Sky box need to be on all the time for obvious reasons. Can I find a decent anti Surge lead with 8 sockets and individually swtiched...can I heckers like.

If anyone can point me in the direction of one please do as I'm pulling my hair out.

Thought I'd give this a bump as cannot believe noone has any idea...may I be proved wrong
  • I have a 6 way, individually switched one...but no idea where I got it from :(
    rather than 1 8 way, really you should have 2 4 ways, 8 things from 1 plug=not good :)

I remember seeing something like this in an old Maplins when VHS was king. Thought who would ever need to switch multiple players
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

I have a 6way individually switched surge protected lead.

    Heres one with 6

2 4ways as Databaseerror says may be the way to go.

Multi Extention Sockets are fine as long as you don't exceed the TOTAL current drawn. I have Belkin 8 way units in use and neither totals more than 5 amps with every thing switched on. -- The formula is Voltage x Current = Watts -- Therefore Current = Watts/Voltage
    thus 1000 watts / 230 Volts = approx 4 Amps -- Dave

Are they individually switched? If so I'm sure the OP would appreciate a link. I could only find 6way ones.

Why not just buy a good surge protection cube - like the Belkin Surgemaster Cube (plugs into the socket, and gives you one socket), then plug just a standard extension lead (which as many switched outlets as you like) into it, that way it's all protected and you've got the individually switched sockets for a fraction of the price of the other alternatives.

This is a 4-way switched surge extension, plugs straight into the socket: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001BU0IQ4

Or more traditional trailing lead extensions, I can only find a 4 or 6 way, individually switched here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001IU2090 and here http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001GU3KI2/

That is dependant on the amount of current drawn as deejayen states quite correctly.
