I wanna buy new washing machine for my daughter. She really wants a 1600 spin not bothered about make although she says she likes Hotpoint. I think they are expensive. Anyone got any ideas on something reliable and about £200- £300 or cheaper if thats possible. Thanx

it's actually worth reading the manuals for a lot of these things. recently we switched from one Bosch 1400 spin to a new Bosch 1400 spin machine. When you actually read the manual for both of them. On the old machine only one wash cycle ever used the 1400 spin cycle regardless of the setting on the machine. The rest of the washes, especially common ones, all had a max spin off 800 or 1000. On the newer machine teh common washes actually acheive 1200 spins and a couple can now utilise the 1400 also. We'd always just assumed that the spin speed was what it spins at. For the majority of people you probably find that the washes you use you could just use a lower spin speed machine if need be as you will never use teh rpograms that utilise the full spin speed0

Yes I agree !
A faster spin speed with a full load of washing makes the clothes more creased
even if you put them into tumble or hang them out to dry they are a !!!!!! to ironIt's nice to be Important
But It's Important to be nice0 -
If you want reliable I would avoid Hotpoint.
I've nothing against them personaly (I had one for 14 years). However the ones they make now really aren't up to scratch. I know someone who repairs washers and he has more call-outs to Hotpoint than any other make!
Beko have an average reliability rating but I don't know if they do any 1600 rpm washers, though they're usually reasonably priced.:wave:0 -
I was reading the Which report on washing machines yesterday, as our washer has stopped draining and I'm sick of having it repaired so thought would invest in a new one.
The only 1600 ones they recommend are over £400!
AEG-Electrolux L86810 £449
Bosch WAS 32466 Logixx £531
We were thinking of going for a Hotpoint, as although they weren't in their best buys, I wanted a higher load machine, and they rated
HOTPOINT Aqualtis AQGD169S quite highly. But now I'm put off by the poster above re Hotpoints.
Sorry about my fonts going all funny btw.0 -
The best buys in the £200-300 price range on the Which report are:
AEG-Electrolux L62810 £294
This 6kg model scores highly for first-rate cleaning on both
cotton and quick cycles, although it’s not the best across the
board. A cotton wash takes nearly two and quarter hours, but
the quick wash is more than an hour shorter. The wash cycle
is relatively quiet, and it’s easy to select extra programmes,
such as easy-iron and handwash.
Pros: Outstanding cotton wash, excellent rapid wash, ease
of use, low running costs,
quiet wash
Cons: Poor rinsing

John Lewis JLWM1203£299
This model is from John Lewis’s exclusive range. The
JLWM1203 is one of the increasing number of machines that
do well in our rinsing test, and cleaning is first-class, too. The
easy-care program is excellent at cleaning, and the standard
40°C cotton program also performs well. The wash cycle is
reasonably quiet, but heavy spinning is noisy, although the
spin cycle works well
and removes
water effectively.
Pros: Good rinsing,
excellent easy-care
wash, digital display,
time delay start
Cons: Noisy spin

Candy CM1146 £261
The CM1146 is from the cheaper end of the market, but its easycare
wash is outstanding. It’s not the quickest machine around,
so you’ll wait two hours 28 minutes for the cotton wash to finish.
It’s also noisy throughout both washing and spin cycles. There’s
a useful time-delay start option and a progress indicator, which
lets you know how long is left before the wash is ready.
Pros: Excellent easy-care loads, decent rinsing,
good spin, time delay
start, wash progress
indicator
Cons: Noisy, lengthy
program times

Been looking for hours again today. Just when I think thats not bad I read a review and it says rubbish avoid. These 2 have been recommended to me.
Hotpoint WMD960 1600spin 8kg load £299.99 not got any
negative write ups that I can see.
ZanussiWF16581 which again seems good. Can't be bothered now will look tomorrow. Grandsons just arrived.0 -
Me too, it's frustrating isn't it? Think poster above is right about Hotpoint being bad for reliability though, checked the reliability table in Which report (am now officially sick of this report too as it keeps putting me off things that I had almost decided on), it has Hotpoint as the bottom for reliability.
Am also thinking of the Zanussi WF16581,
Have found it cheapest in white from Appliance Direct £334 + £29.99 delivery = £363.99:
http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product_information.aspx?BackLink=product_listings&ProductID=7607&ProductCode=ZWF16581W_WH
In silver, the cheapest I can find is £387.65 inc delivery from Electrical Discount UK:

Think I will go for the white Zanussi, but will wait til tomorrow in case anyone comes up with any other ideas!0 -

TBH I'd avoid Hotpoint like the plague. When we bought ours we worked on the cost per year. A Hotpoint for £300 which MIGHT last 2 years or a better brand for £400 with a standard 5 year warranty and better build quality.
There's some info here:

Or you can sign up to Which? for £1. You might also want to look back at some old threads on the DIY board.0
