Buying a new car?

Im looking for some advice. I currently own a fiat punto and have had continuous problems with it for the last 6 months - wiper linkage, wheel bearings amonsgt others. Now the gearbox is on its way out. I dont want to pay another £300 plus out on a car which is guaranteed to continue to be problematic.

I have seen a 55 plate corsa, 3dr, 15k and added extras for £4995. The garage has offered me a £1000 for my fiat as a part-ex.

I'm happy enough to take this car as I have enough money saved to pay off the remaining balance but everyone who i have said this too is saying 'its a credit crunch, keep ur money, buy a slightly cheaper car' but i dont really want to. its my money, iv got a bit left ova and i dont want to let the opportunity to own such a lovely little car pass me by.

Any advice?

    its my money

    Be Happy, buy the car.
  • If you've spent alot of money on the car already then dosen't it make sense to keep it? Ok, you may be a bit miffed that you have to have the gearbox replaced but at least you will have a good car afterwards. You say that the Fiat is guaranteed to go wrong..don't worry it's probably just a run of bad luck.
However, my thinking steers towards that you have already made your mind up so go with your heart! :)

I think what folk are suggesting to you is that they are concerned that you perhaps might not have a job or reduced hours in a few months time. I suspect you are quite young and have never felt the effects of a full blown recession. Be very very careful about spending such a large sum of money.

So just think twice about, can you cover your mortgage, rent etc if you lose your income?

There are going to be some very surprised people in a few months wondering why they don't have that "safe" job anymore.

the corsa is about 1K over priced.
get them down in price a bit, after all the car is the old shape and is 3 years old.
good idea to get rid of the fiat. but the corsa wouldnt be my ideal replacement.

  • Sorry, don't understand all the 55 plate speak. That is def overpriced. You can get a new shape 07 corsa for that price.

I am looking to buy one however according to autotrader ford fiesta's are the best new and used small cars about.

I say wait until you get another big car bill then decide whether or not to get a new car

55 plate is registered after september 2005, 05 is registered between march 2005 and september 2005.

regardless were agreed this corsa is well over priced. £3500 top whack.

  • As you've spent so much money on the Punto, can I buy it off you as it'll probably be a decent car to be honest!

Let's face it, the Corsa will need money spending on it at some point.

I never understand why people spend money on a car, then get rid!
