@Maj
How much SDRAM are you talking about ?
What form factor is your old motherboard. ?
That latest bit of jargon for refers to the shape of the motherboard and where the holes for the external connectors on the motherboard line up with holes on the old case. It's nuts, screws and grown up lego. A new case from https://www.ebuyer.com will not set you back to much if the shape of things to come does not match what you have.

I've got an MSI KM2M Combo-L MoBo which supports upto XP2600 - pretty cheap board. The reason I mention this is not because I recommend you buy one (although I've had no issues with mine) but because the MoBo has two pairs of memory DIMMS; one for DDR and one for SDRam. When I first upgraded i used my old SDRam then later on I bought some newer DDR memory.
The important thing to note is the clock spped ofthe memory, i.e. if your SDRam is 266Mhz and the MoBo is 333 then the two are incompatible. The above MoBo (like many others I'm sure) will run at 266 or 333 depending on what you have plugged in (inc CPU).

Have you tried Ebay? I picked up a secondhand one recently and it worked fine and was dead cheap.

@Maj
What is the model number of your existing motherboard and why do you need a new one?

Sorry Maj
I forgot about your VGA connector soldering predicament. I have just managed to repair a telephone expansion adapter that had 'dry' joints. The tendency is to connect all the pins or tracks together with solder. Desoldering tools exist and are essential when you are trying a repair job. I will leave you with a few retailer names to consider. Scan, Aria, Microdirect, Ebuyer etc. The choice of suitable boards is diminishing as the old stuff is displaced by the new which sells at higher volumes.

HI maj,
Another option is to use a PCI graphics card--that way--you will not need to install winxp again.
Alternatively--look at dabs.com--used stock--they will have some motherboard which use SDRAM.
BTW: DDR SDRAM is DDR Ram.0
