Is a Kitchen from Ebay too Risky???

Hi Everyone,
My partner and I are nearly exchanging on our first house and I am on the lookout for a new kitchen.
The one in the house at the moment is nice with a lovely tiled floor (mini picture below!), but I am more of a natural person and would prefer cream units with a wooden worktop.

I've been looking on Ebay and quite a few people are dismantling their kitchens and listing them on there. However, will it be too risky considering I could pay £200-£300 for a kitchen that looks worn and may be missing bits or have broken bits?
Also, i may have to replace the tiled floor as I'm not too sure if it would suit a cream kitchen. Am I asking too much of a first house? Or is it worth picking up a bargain kitchen?
Some advice would be very grateful!
Helen

why not just repaint the units, and fit a new wooden worktop if so desired.
ps. your kitchen looks fine to me as it is.Get some gorm.0 -
as most are collection only, so bet, to only bid on local ones, it would easiest to just pop round and have a look before bidding (if the seller allows). However, if you dont get to view it beforehand, and it isnt as described when you turn up, then you are free to not go ahead with the sale.
alot of people selling are like yourself, having moved house recently, and the kitchen just isnt to their taste. Looking at your own kitchen, theres nothing wrong with it, so personally, id try selling that on ebay too, to cover your costs.
yes, sometimes things may get broken as you take them apart, thats prob why most listings say you have to dismantle the kitchen yourself, as the seller doesnt want to break something and then have to back out of the sale
its always best to buy kitchens that have more units than you need too, as that way you have more to jiggle with, and if you do break something, means you may have another you could use

My mother in law got a kitchen off ebay for £175 we were at bit unsure at first so my husband contacted the seller. He went to view it first and then agreed that they and my husband would dismantle the kitchen together.
Have you looked at changing the doors only? Or Ikea have some great kitchens.
I wouldnt rush straight in though move in first, settle down and then think about it, after all its not a bad kitchen.
good luck in your new home !" I would not change you for the world, but I would change the world for you"

When I see your face there's not a thing that I would change 'cause your amazing just the way you are0 -
I hadn't thought of re painting them, so thank you I will keep that in mind. I suppose I could get different doors and worktops instead of replacing the whole kitchen.
Would buying these things from Ebay still be risky regarding quality?0 -
the quality would be virtually identical to the BQ/wickes types. esp the budget ranges.Get some gorm.0

My partner doesn't want to change the kitchen, but I really would feel more comfortable! I am the kind of person who wants to get in and do everything right away! Maybe settling in and seeing how we get on with it would be a plan first of all!
I would like to get rid of the wall units and the complete unit in the alcove by the table, but am then worrying about having to replaster and finding the floor tiles to match.
Thank you everyone for your replies, I will definitely view first before buying!0 -
I woudl try living with it for a few weeks and see how you get on. If nothing else it will give yuo time to see what you like and what you dont about the present layout.0

My partner doesn't want to change the kitchen,
i bet he doesn't i wonder if you will be doing the work or he will be strong armed into it also the kitchen you got does look fine.
I've just done my kitchen floor and half the concrete ripped up with the tiles due to there being heating pipes in the floor dryed it out, net result was whole concrete floor having to be relaid adding a further 2-3 weeks on the job also not to mention the dust and the mess which you will get I've still got it around the house five weeks later it is not pretty just be aware first before you start!0 -
I would definitely go very carefully before meddling with a good kitchen like that, you will probably find that a compromise job done on the cheap is actually more irritating to live with than a decent kitchen that isn't quite to your taste.
That kitchen looks like the MFI Hudson (I'm not a kitchen expert - it just looks a lot like the kitchen units that came with my house). If it is, then it might be worth keeping your eye out for MFI kitchen doors on ebay, because you might be able to get enough doors you like to do a straight swap, and since they'll be the right doors for the units, they'd fit perfectly.0
