McAfee Security Centre subscription renewal or buy Mcafee Total Protection 2009

Options
Subscription for McAfee Security is coming to an end - it has worked brilliantly, however, the subscription renewal is more expensive than buying the McAfee Total Protection 2009 - what should I do? Any thoughts?

Comments

  • Ditch McAfee altogether at the end of your subscription period. Replace the anti virus component with either Eset NOD32/Kaspersky if you want to pay for the best, or you could use a free alternative. For Spyware and Firewalls there are numerous free alternatives to use.

Any combination of these will give more protection than McAfee.

I wouldnt touch mcafee with a barge pole

As ane' says, either pay for kaspersky or NOD32
Or go for AVAST or AVIRA (Completely free) anti virus programs

I would also suggest SPYBOT, MALWAREBYTES and SUPERANTISPYWARE as backup scanners (And spybots usefull IMMUNISE feature)

For a firewall (but make SURE mcafee is COMPLETELY uninstalled first) I recommend PCTOOLS FIREWALL (Kaspersky and NOD come with their own firewalls though (usually))

Use the mcafee uninstall tool to remove it (Else you MAY hit a ton of problems!)

Thank you for your replies and views. I have looked up kaspersky (to be honest I have never heard of it!) and it seems that it does everything I would need. If I were to go for this would I really need any other spyware or firewall?

I could be wrong here (In only really dwal in the freebie stuff) but I think theres 2 versions. One thats JUST the anti virus, and one with all the extras (firewall etc)
You dont need the others though id still recommend MALWAREBYTES as a secondary scanner and SPYBOT to stop nasty websites (Using its IMMUNISE feature)

Thank you aliEnRIK, I have found Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 on amazon for £17.36 (down from £49.99) and I believe it has firewall aswell. I think this may be a good offer for 3pcs.

If I got this and then used SPYBOT also, would you advise for me to install MALWERBYTES or would this be unnecessary if there is firewall included with Kaspersky Internet Security 2009?

MALWARBYTES is simple a hard drive scanner. It might find something that kaspersky has missed so id personally advise to use it.
Also, as youve been using the AWFUL Mcafee ~
As soon as malwarebytes is uninstalled, id recommend updating and giving it a FULL scan just in case

Thank you so much for your advice aliEnRIK, I think I shall take up your recommendations and give Kaspersky a go along with SPYBOT and MALWAREBYTES
    Thanks again
