Back Button issue - driving me nuts!

Hi, I am running Windows Xp (sp2) on an HP Radeon 9000.
2.53GHZ (Pen 4), 60gb hard drive, 256mb DDR-SDRAM. I'm very very new to computer issues so forgive me if I need to provide more info.
For the last three or so weeks, I have had major problems with my back /fwd button in that it skips a page. Also if I am say doing internet shopping, when I add a quantity to an item, it always increases the quantity by one more. In addition, (happened at same time) I cannot get my drop down menus from the toolbar to stay on and have to drag my mouse across to highlight anything also I cannot highlight in order to copy or cut anything.

I run AVG and also spybot, cc cleaner, and adaware on a weekly basis and am usually quite careful with any nasties. It does seem though that my pc is infected. I have done a full system clean (via a page on majorgeeks through alink fform this site) and disabled system restore after anything was found and then rebooted and reenabled system resore.
The prblem actually seems though to be getting worse.

Can anyone assist me at all?
