HDMI + sound - graphics card / motherboard

Folks, I currently have a motherboard with a HDMI extender thingy on it, but I have to manually route the sound via sound properties then restart Windows Media / iTunes etc to get it to recognise the new sound changes.

The video side of things is ok-ish, the graphics settings allow me to run standard multiple displays so that's sorted.

I want to do this as I create a lot of video slideshows etc and want to preview them on the big telly as well as work on them on the PC.

Does anyone know of an effective motherboard or graphics card solution so I can permanently run sound and video through HDMI to the telly and VGA or DVI to the computer monitor at the same time so I don't have to muck about with settings etc ?

Hope this makes sense !

Musicboy.

    My pc that I use my main tv is connected to video card (AGP) via DVI to hdmi cable got from Ebay. I then run the sound separate with optical cable to surround sound amp (Yamaha) if I want 5.1 surround sound for movies or using a 3.5 jack plug to tv

    The graphics card nothing fancy (Nvidia AGP card) has two dvi sockets so I can if I want run the pc on to two tvs/monitors

    To get the sound to work though I have to select which output I want with the software that came with the surround sound card although cheap card for around £22 (TRUST 7.1 PCI SOUND CARD)

    Motherboard is a old Asus P4P800 deluxe about 5-6 years old now

    HDMI = Video +Sound
    DVI = Video only!

    If your graphics card has a DVI connector then you'll have to keep manually changing the audio feed.

    If you want High Def output +Audio change for a graphics card that has a HDMI output! :D

    ati are the only ones that can do hdmi with sound and a few nvidia one to can put not all unlike ati (pci-e cards)
    and you will need a ati dvi-hdmi dongle,with out it you get no sound and some dvi-hdmi leads can do the same (not all)
    and if your using your tv you need to plug the hdmi lead into the hdmi-dvi socket ,most tv only have one hdmi socket that can work right with a pc
    there or their,one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff
