Income protection for the self employed??

Hi, Does anyone out there have any info about income protection for the self employed. I have only been self employed as a health practitioner since september and my earings are minimal so far, but I feel I need the protection never the less!!! It might only be a small income but i'd miss it!!!

can anyone recommend anything as the sites i've looked at seem to base the policy on previous years profit.......I dont think I'll even make one this year!!!

What do you want the income protection for? There are various policies that offer a form of income if you cannot work due to illness or disaster etc. You cannot insure against your business going bankrupt or if you dont feel like working.

The most common policy that would provide an indemnity against you not workng would be a Personal Accident policy. These can pay a weekly benefit should you not be able to work due to illness or injury. But be careful on the exclusions etc.

Im guessing that you already have some form of medical practioners insurance, so you would be best of talking to your insurance broker and getting an add on to your existing policy or taking out a new one.
