Please help me choose a new fridge freezer

Hi, my old fridge freezer Hotpoint Mistral Plus 8596 is on it's last legs so I am looking for a new one.

The main spec is that the freezer has a net capacity of about 115 litres, and that the width is roughly 60 cm. I can probably go to about £600, I don't need water dispensers or ice makers.

I have been looking at loads of fridge freezer but most quote you a gross capacity and by the time you get to the net capacity the storage is greatly reduced.

The one that caught my eye was the Hotpoint FF200EG although this has a lower freezer capacity, actually I was just about to purchase it when I decided to have a look at reviews on this and is seems to get a pretty bad write up.

I went to comet today to have a look about but nothing seems to be comparable with my old Hotpoint.

Is there a way of searching for fridge freezers by freezer capacity:confused:

Please help:beer:

We're choosing a fridge freezer at the moment too, and think we're going for the Bosch KGH34X43, £400ish from Dixons:

Freezer capacity is 109 litres. Bosch fridge freezers seem to have good ratings for reliability, but have a look at reviews and see what you think.

Hi Alexi, thanks for the reply, I looked at the one that you have linked and it does seem good. I went to the Bosch website to see what it says and it seems that the numbers quoted on the dixons website is gross and not net.

Here is the link for you

This has been my problem whilst searching the net, there is just no accurate figures.

I am going to go round the shops again tomorrow and have another look:confused:

    Thanks for the reply anyway:beer:

  • When I was looking, I had a similar budget to you and liked this one :

John Lewis JLFFW2005 Fridge Freezer, White. Its £535 with a 3 year guarantee. http://www.johnlewis.com/230420538/Product.aspx

Being awkward, I wanted a stainless steel one though and ended up with a similar AEG model (AEG S75408G8). Normally way out of my price range, I got it from John Lewis on 'Clearance Day' in the summer. It was half price because it had scratches down one side (which won't be seen as this is the side against the wall). It still came with the guarantee.

    It helped to:
    1. Be there for when the shop opened
    2. Be at the door nearest the electrical department
    3. Be on my own - its amazing how much slower people walk through a shop when they are with someone else.
    4. Be decisive and grab that sales assistant!

The electrical department got vey busy very quickly.

Otherwise, I found the manager of the local Euronics shop very knowledgeable when it came to which f/f offered a high capacity freeezer section. I was very impressed with his knowledge.

I never found a size comparison chart...... sorry.

Ah, thanks marky_b, that's useful to know... and quite sneaky on the part of the retailers! Not sure I can be bothered to change our choice though, it was bad enough doing the research the first time :-)
