Nationwide Flex account card.

Hi all,
i opened a nationwide Flex account the other week because i'm going traveling in a few months and this is by far the best current account for doing just that.
However when my card arrived, it was a bloody cash card, not even a chip so cant even use it to buy things in england never mind abroad, and its only cirrus so hardly easily accessible at ATMs either for normal withdrawals.
I rang up to upgrade to a REAL debit card and the guy told me they had to monitor the flow through my account for SIX MONTHS before i could upgrade.
Anybody else has this problem? and does anyone else know a solution (the guy on the phone didn't sound very savvy) or maybe an alternative card to use whilst traveling.?
Cheers for reading,
Ash

Ashley,I had this prob when I opened a flexaccount in Jul. However I ran it well, opened an esavings and I have a credit card with them too. Just been accepted for the debit card now, waiting for it to arrive!
I don't think the post office credit card charges for purchases abroad, but you can't use it to withdraw cash.... same with the nationwide credit card.Kavanne

There doesn't seem to be a shortage of ATMS

The Cirrus atm card will work at most, if not all cash machines that display either that logo or MasterCard. This should be similar to the cash machine coverage from Visa.
The Post Office credit card is MasterCard, as is Abbey Zero.
The only other Visa based card, with no commission, that I can think of is the Thomas Cook card .ashleybond wrote: »Hi all,

There's also Saga Platinum...for the over 50's and within 'Visa Europe' only. The only other Visa based card, with no commission, that I can think of is the Thomas Cook card .

Ok Cheers everyone, looks like i'll use the Cash card purely for ATM withdrawals and use my Abby Zero for purcheses. Does the Cirrus cash card still have the same benifits as the normal VISA flex account card? most importantly the 0% on withdrawals abroad?!?! if so then all is not lost

Thanks again for info and advise..0
