Camper van maintenance

Does anyone know where to find a carburettor to fit a 35 year old classic VW camper van with a 1.8L engine? Also, any idea how much it might cost?
Our old van is playing up and our trusty mechanic has told us this is the problem which he can fix if we can find the part.
Thanks for any help you can give.

They do rebuild kits for some carbs0 -

Problems with old carbs are often down to air leaks caused by wear around the spindles, and not fixed by the usual service kits. There are still people around who can properly rebuild one, ream out and bush the spindles etc, but it might be quite pricey.
If all else fails, you can still buy a new replacement...

Many thanks for the replies to my query - all very useful - we're in the process of tracking down the required part and looking forward to having our van on the road again for the Spring.
What a resourceful lot you moneysavers are - this site must be the best source of information on the web!
