Sticking Windows

Options
We have had our windows fitted now for about 5yrs or so. The problem we have is they are sticking we have tried the normal stuff like oilling the joints and vaseline on the seals but it hasn't made a difference. They are still under garuntee but last time we rang about this problem they just told us it was becuase the needed oilling so we did and it made a difference for about n2 weeks. It isn't as if we dont open the windows either. Its got to the stage where we don't shut them properly now we just leave them on the latch so we can open them again.Does anyone have any more suggestions or should I just ring them back and get them to come out and look?

Thank you.

    Hi MonkeyGirl,

As your windows are still under guarantee I would definitely ring the company back. Ask to speak to a manager and politely explain that you have tried their previous suggestion of oiling, etc., but that the problem still exists.

I'm sure it can't be a good idea to leave the windows permanently ajar, expecially if you ever have to make a claim on your household insurance.

If you have tried everything you can, then you need to make the solution the company's responsibility. Stick to your guns and go higher than the manager if you get no joy with him / her because this is obviously an issue which is causing you grief.

    Good luck.

It maybe that the hinges have dropped.. They do that after a while and need adjusting. I hould get back onto the people who fitted them as the frames are under
a 10yr warranty and the units under a 15yr warranty so they will have to adjust them.

It sounds like they need 'top and tailing'.

This is a method of using the spacers around the double glazed unit to pull the frame back up into place. This would mean taking off the beading for each window, and adjusting the spacers around the glass.

If the windows are under guarantee. Get the company that fitted them back in. It will be their responsibility to sort this out, and they should know what to do.
