Closing Credit Card Accounts?

I have a number of credit card accounts which are never used. Two of them are actually in credit as I paid off the balance and the providers took DD's anyway.

All I need to know is if simply writing to them quoting my card number is enough to get the cards closed or will they throw small print at me?

You should be able to call them up and request the account to be closed. They should be able to refund any positive balance either directly to your Bank Account or by issuing with a cheque.

That's good.

I dont have the cards though. I destroyed them when I received them as I knew I didnt want to use them. Do they usually ask for card details aswell?

I'm in the process of close four cards as I thought it might be affecting my credit score. Checked the score with Creditexpert.co.uk and my score is 999 - which isnt bad - still want to get rid of the excess accounts though as it the score does mention how many accounts I have.
