Changing to Scottish power advice please

Options
I am new to all this, done my comp search and it recommends SP. I have always been with B Gas and N power. If I go through Quidco I will get £46
cashback. Scottish Power are offering me a saving of 24.9% on Internet only.
or 10.7% saving on Internet capped price untill oct 2007, and the same saving for Internet NO standing charge capped till Oct 2007.

I really don't know what will be best, can you advise please.

P.S At the moment I pay 45 Gas and 40 Electric. per month DD
Also Is it best to stop my DD with the bank for BG and npower, when I change to SP.

Any Advice Please.

Thank-you

Michelle

Ah, Scottish Power, that would be the company that ripped me off when I switched.

I would not put you off switching to them, if they are the cheapest, but would advise that you check very carefully that you have evidence that the rate you sign up for is capped / frozen until 2007.

I switched last year from nPower. At the time nPower had frozen until sometime in 2006. Scottish Power said thats okay, we are cheaper and we will freeze until mid 2007. One month after switching the rates got put up.

Scottish Power denied any knowledge that I was on a frozen rate, despite admitting that deal was available (i.e. I was not dreaming it) - but they also said that unless I can produce written evidence of the rate freeze, they would not honour it. IMHO, they knew I did not have any written evidence.

I switched to SP from Powergen 16 months ago on a capped rate for 12 months ending Dec 31st and saved nearly £200.
I have now gone onto the new capped rate untill Oct 2007.
I work out how much I want the DD to be and they accept it.
At the 4th Jan I was £26 in credit after attempting to overpay by £2/month to be on the safe side.
I have calculated my new DD payment today based on the same usage as last year and will be phoning them in the morning.
Go with it, Scottish Power are ok.

Definitely cancel your DDs or they'll go rolling on. Your new supplier will set up new DDs.

Thank-you so much for all the advice, Sorry for needing my hand holding on this but I always seem to make the wrong decisions.

So I will fix my rate, is it best to fix with or without the standing charge. I think the unit price is a bit highter without the standing charge, but the overall saving is still 10.7% for both. What do you think will be the best?

    Thank-you

I just changed to SP online dual fuel online energy saver from SP dual online. I just found that to be cheapest and you get £46 cashback from Quidco if you do it from there.

If you are a normal user with or without standing charge will make damn all difference.
With a no standing charge tarriff the first 4500 kwh of gas and the first 800 kwh of electricity are charged at a higher unit rate, which effectively is paying the standing charge, the balance of the units are at a lower rate. I think this is per quarter.
So if your not planning to go to Austrailia for 3 months you might as well have the standing charge.

O yes and I'm with Scottish power with a capped price on line account, and am happy at the moment.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Scottish Power dual fuel online is cheap and I have found it easy to adjust DD amount by just e-mailing them.
