Working from home

Not sure this is right place, so feel free to move.

I have recently started working from home and need to submit an expenses claim for increased heating /electric costs, does anyone have any experience of this and how I would go about getting calculations for this?

Any help or advice would be very welcome as I am very confused by it all

Thanks

They don't have one as it's a new thing for them.

Just slap in a demand for a couple of grand a week.

Afterall, if they have no policy or guidelines you can't be wrong can you. :)

I suspect they will develop a policy quite rapidly then.

Well the Tax allowance way was to take the total number of bedrooms/living rooms in the house and claim for 1 part of that - eg if you have 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms you would claim 1/6th of costs for home office. How about trying that?

Warning! Following misinformation sourced from a drunken conversation in a pub:

Tax allowances may not be available if the worker COULD work at their employer's premises. If an employee or employer chooses to allow a worker to work from home then any allowances that the employer grants are not treated generously (or even dispassionately). Only the self-employed get a home office allowance from the taxman. (Well, that's what someone ranted to me about a couple of weeks ago. She wasn't a reliable witness, however.)
