in Credit cards
I wonder if anyone can help, my mum and dad got a credit card, i think it may be a Barclaycard, they were both on benefits my dad's disabled. They have a balance of about £900.00 on the card i think, but in May last year my mum passed away from a short battle with cancer, my dad only now receives money for himself and is now struggling to pay the minimum balance each month. I think he may have payment protection would he be able to claim on this or is his best bet to write to the credit card company and ask if they could do anything to help. Obviously we didn't expect mum not to be here as we had no clue that she had cancer. My dad's nearly 60 and as i said on benefits so theres no way he can get a loan and me and my brother aren't able to help at the moment.
Sorry to waffle any help would be gratefully appreciated and please don't judge i'm sure theres many a person in this position.
Thank You.

Hi there
Firstly I would contact the card supplier ( barclaycard?) and explain the situation to them - that your fathers circumstances have changed and as such he is no longer in a position to maintain his pyaments.
Make sure that you have all other financial details available - soa ( incomings/outgoings/etc) and hopefully they may be able to accept a reduced payment and freeze interest .
They may try it on , at first, and insist on payment.
Even if they agree to a reduced payment - obviously your account will fall into arrears - but if he cannot afford to pay then there is nothing else you can do
good luck0 -
If neither of them were working, it sounds to me like the payment protection was mis-sold, since it seems unlikely they would have qualified to claim on it. Perhaps someone else more in-the-know can comment?0
