I have just installed AOL 9.0 on my computer. It doesn't seem to be compatible with the free version of zone alarm that I was using. I have uninstalled the zone alarm, but need a firewall. Is anybody able to recommend one I can download for free that is compatiable with AOL 9.0 and windows XP.
Please give an idiots guide as I am not very technically minded. I stick with AOL despite all the criticsms of them because I make frequent use of their free helpline!
Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, has the free helpline got any advice / info about compatibilty probs with Zone Alarm? It is generally accepted (note I said generally, guys) as (one of) the best free firewalls.0

They simply advised I uninstall it.

I have aol 9 & zone alarm on my computer & haven't had any problems. I haven't got any technical knowledge, so can't offer any really constructive advice. But I just wonder if it's worth your while to try uninstalling the aol software, install zone alarm, then install aol once again to see if that solves your problem? The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Sorted. I have just tired reinstalling zone alarm after getting the AOL 9.0 up and running. For some reason it was causing problems at dial up immediately after I installed AOL 9.0.I simply couldn't sign on for the first time on 9.0 without uninstalling zone alarm. Seemed happy to let me reinstall zone alarm though. Dialling up fine now. All very confusing ???
Just about to change to broadband so I am hoping I won't have to uninstall zone alarm again :-/
Thanks for the help0 -
AOL's 'latest version' software regularly causes problems with existing problems, and has done for many years.
While I am sure AOL is the ISP of choice for many users, I wonder how much of that is due to good marketing rather than any technical advantage? :-/
And yes, you can call me a cynic. ::)0
