Yes if you write them a letter you should be able to get some (if not all of the charge back). Especially if you have a good payment record.

As for paying the Capital One card account online, I do it. If you have an online banking facility from your bank (I do with Halifax). If I remember correctly on the back of your Credit Card Statement there are details on how to set up a standing order/bill payment from your on-line bank account.

This transfer will take approx 4 days to clear the funds but its quick and easy to do.

  • I know that on old capital one statements they used to put a pay by date - if you could argue that you were using their guidelines you may get a total refund.

  • I'm just reading the note on the statement regarding Internet banking, it says

"Your payment will then credit your account within 5 Working Days" so I suppose it's another way of saying cleared in 4!!

  • i paid on 19th and payment due on 23rd she said it can take up to 5 working days for it to clear.

  • Sounds like they did not count the day you paid in ie the 19th if they did, then the 23rd would be the fifth day, in other words it took 6 days, did you pay first thing in the morning?

19th was a Sunday, therefore not a working day. Clock would have started ticking on the 20th, therefore fourth working day would have been the 24th. Don't you hate it when that happens.
  • But I though internet banking is Computerised, so it shouldn't matter what day the transaction takes place. What's the point of 24 hour banking using this method if it doesn't active until a weekday!!
