vouchers for insurance payouts

we were burgled on sunday night and they took £120 cash and about £280 of jewellery. i have been on the phone yesterday to the jewellery loss management company trying to describe my jewellery (which is quite hard to do). most of the jewellery were presents so i could only take a guess at the price. he wanted to know where items were bought from - i could only give a guess as to where i presumed my mum and husband had bought them from. he then told me that ge payout would be in vouchers for a weel known high street jeweller. as i did not wear my jewellery very often i am not that inclined to replace it, especially as most of it was of sentimental value being that they were gifts.

do i have to accept the vouchers or can i ask for the equivalent money. also there will be £100 excess - can this be taken from the vouchers if that is what they will give me.

any help appreciated

also i dont remember reading vouchers mentioned in any of the policy notes

You policy probably says you are entitled to replacement.
You could ask for cash but you will almost certainly be offered a lot less because the insurer will get a big discount for buying in bulk and putting business their way.
You are proabbly not entitled to cash, only replacements, but they will probably be willing to let you have a (lower) cash value if that's what you want.

    Yes

It would have said you were entitled to replacements and not entioned the mechanism for getting those replacements.
Apart from the issue of you preferring cash is there any reason that you could not get replacements with the vouchers i.e. did you have anything bespoke or antique.
If it's possible to replace your items with the vouchers then I don't think you are entitled to anything else (although as I said you can probably get a lower cash settlement).
