Hi all,
I've just installed the full version of Norton 2006 and am now having great difficulty connecting to the Internet.
I have XP and am using Wanadoo. The modem is working correctly and everything lights up as it should do, but I keep being told my password is invalid and cannot be verified, which is rubbish as it's programmed in. I can usually connect after about 20 attempts.
Could this be anything to do with also having Zone Alarm installed? Would it be OK to uninstall Zone Alarm?
Any help greatly appreciated.

When you say the 'full' version do you mean Norton Internet Security (as opposed to anti-virus)? If so I would uninstall the Zone Alarm as Nortons firewall and Zone Alarms are not supposed to be good chums. I don't know if that will solve your problem but its a starting point.0

No, it's the "full" anti-virus version. Should I therefore stick with Zone Alarm? Could a conflict between Norton and Z/A be causing this do you think and, if so, what's the alternative for a good firewall? Is the Windows one any good??

It sure well could be a ZA and NAV conflict.. Did you buy Norton?
If its a freebie of sorts I would remove NAV in my own opinion.0 -
Not wishing to disagree with Intel, but Norton and Zone Alarm work quite happily together!
Zone Alarm is much better than the XP firewall, so I would leave Zone Alarm installed.
If your password is being rejected, I don't see how the above programs could be causing this problem, as presumably your modem is dialling out and you are receiving an error response from your ISP? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Hi,
I do a few homers for people(desktop support for company full time) and the route of most of my problem is norton(evil texpensive thing ). I suggest you remove it, and use a free antivirus software
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
or
http://free.grisoft.com/
It is free, i use it on my own PC's and may others......and yes its free with free updates, The only downside is updates can take some time when there is a big outbreak.......as paying customers get the first bite as it were.

Thanks for all the replies, but Norton Anti-virus was not a freebie, I paid for it so am reluctant (obviously) to remove it. Any other ideas??Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

Mmm try removing ZA. And make sure you have Allowed Your PC
to get a connection Via NAV.
You can always re-install ZA at any time.. if its the freebie ZA.0 -

i realise you paid for it but the free version of avg is better than norton. Norton kills pcs and can render all but the most up-to-date very very slow indeed.0
