Barclaycard!!!

I had my goldfish credit card taken over by Barclaycard last year. Just had a phone call from Barclaycard asking me to pay £395.28 over the phone for money owed from December! I asked when the last statement was sent out and they replied 13th January - so you should recieve it today or tomorrow!! So basically they are asking me to pay before I have any chance of seeing the statement. They also said that by paying over the phone immediately I would be able to stop all charges! As I am at work now and have no idea what this about I have agreed to phone them this afternoon. I dont use this credit card very much and the last time I used it was New Year's Eve to pay for dinner. Is this usual with Barclaycard?

It could very well be a scam call.

You did the right thing in refusing to pay them and saying that YOU will phone THEM, at least that way you know who you are dealing with, they will also tell you whether or not it was infact them that called you.

This all sounds very dodgy to me, I have a barclaycard and they have never asked me to pay anything over the phone like that.

It really does sound like a scam because the way these cards work is you get your statement and then you pay. If they call you take the name of the person and then find the real Barclaycard number on line or on your statements and call them and then ask for the person who called you.

Just be careful and don't give any card details out over the phone.
This signature was previously violated by my wife, that'll learn me to stay perma logged in.

Fortunately, the offending comments have now been removed - my apologies to all who had to read it and laugh at my expense.

Very good advice, I would recommend you try and contact them when you get home. Can you check online banking?
  • I wil phone them using the number on my card - not the number the man gave me! Scary though as they knew my date of birth and my address.
  • What number did they give you to call back on?
