HIV+ Incapacity Benefit Medical Assessment

Hi Guys!
Can someone pls help!. I have been receiving Incapacity Benefit for 6mths since becoming ill with HIV symptoms. Unfortunately the meds I am taking have been unable to bring my viral load to the desired level. Due to this and the meds I have extreme loss of my bowels and have collapsed 4 times in the last month. I have now been asked to attend a medical to assess my eligability for Incapacity Benefit. Due to the diaorhea and collapsing etc I requested a home visit and provided a Drs letter backing my request. This has been refused! If I do not attend my Incapacity Benefit will stop!I literally cannot attend! What do I do?????
Thanks
Kev.

Hello Weekev,
I try and only click on questions that I feel I can answer, but I am at a total loss.
Half of me thinks there must be arrangements for people that are unable, for what ever reason, to have a home visit for assessment.
The other half of me thinks this is all part of the process, and it's all to see what people can actually do for themselves.
The best advice I can give you is speak to Dial. It's run by disabled people for disabled people. I am sure that there are people with other disabilities that may be in the same position
Their website is

Good luck,

That is totally unreasonable. If your doctor supports your need for an at home assessment they should have to provide you with one.
Have you tried speaking to your local CAB (citizens advice)? I'm not sure what else to suggest.
Have you told your doctor that they are refusing? Maybe he could write a stronger letter?0 -
me i would just demand that i was seen at home, sometimes you just have to insist to get anywhere as you have said you have the backing of your GP so i would just insist it,s done your way. [ thats my take on things any way].0

Thanks for the advice guys but unfortunately they just wont budge! On top of this I have to have a small oporation too! Im trying to see the bright side of this but its just getting worse day by day hour by hour!
Ive never claimed benefits before this and never want to again! Im ashamed to be British!
Thanks though.0 -
Hi Weekev, Have you thought about claiming DLA, or do you already get that? You can do this by post, and it doesn't usually involve a Dr's visit, just lots of info. HTH.0

The good old UK what can i say. as far as i can say it,s diabolical treatment of a uk tax payer and i would take things to the highest level possible , never give in to them.0

might be an idea to contact your mp by email or letter, what they are asking is totally unacceptable0

Hi, I was just wondering how you are doing and if you have had any luck getting them to give you a home assessment yet?0
