Day Out in London

Hopefully someone can help.
Has anyone recently driven to London along the M4 from the Bristol direction, parked up and caught the tube in?
I used to do this and park at Chiswick but all the streets there are now parking permits only.
Does anyone have an area to park where I can leave the car and get on the tube?

I went last year, tried to park at Hillingdon Tube station, but was full up of rovers fans playing at Wembley, so drove a few miles up the road to Uxbridge (I think) and was fine. This was bank holiday weekend, and paid something like £11 to park for Sat +Sun +BH Mon (Bargain)

If coming off at the Chiswick roundabout, I would look at the piccadilly stations eg. Osterley, Hounslow.
