The below is a repo we went to see on our estate:

no kitchen sink and missing kitchen cupboards. also oak floor ripped up in places and replaced by remnant carpet was a bit of a give away. the obv tape on toilet and "no onward chain" altho that can also mean its a btl or the owner is deceased. best thing to do is ask the EA, they came out straight away and told us. it also meant no real negotiation on price as the bank wants as much ££ as poss.0 -
Just to mention, no notice in the window, no tapes across baths and loos at the place son recently bought which was a repo. So you cant rely on any indications really except the place is empty0

<Snipped for clarity>
Yes, the place we've seen had no kitchen sink and most of the cupboards had been pulled out. Old carpet thrown down in some of the rooms too.
I suspect cooking fat had been sprayed on the wooden laminate in the hallway as it was like an icerink as soon as you stepped through the door.
At least the cat flap had been left intact!0 -

I wouldn't rely on that one, by this reckoning my next door neighbour hasn't lived there for about two years!:D0 -

One of our neighbours does his with his flymo (Does a great job on them btw) but keeps them so neat and tidy even the best clipped hedge looks tatty compared to his.
You can differentiate old person house by the swirly carpets - because 1970's carpet was made to last!0
