Hi
Need an external hard disc with at least 500gb capacity. I missed the aldi one last month so on the lookout for a reasonably priced unit. Has anyone spotted a good one?
Thanks

Is reliability the key factor, or will price play a part too?
I would highly recommend buying your own enclosure, and installing your own harddrive in that. That way, you know the exact make and model of drive, and can be sure that you have a reliable backup.
For the record, I would avoid Seagate 7200.11 drives like the plague for now. They seem to be going through a rather bad patch.
See this article: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/374/1050374/seagate-barracudas-7200-11-failingEverybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -

I am getting the hard drive for work and they are paying so it has to be complete. If it was me i would be down the local computer market and put my own together which have done a couple of times and got reliable equipment for a cheap price! But pricefor work has to be around 60ish. The buffalo looks okay for the price....
Thanks for your help0 -
Although there is a previous post warning against Seagate, I have one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-FreeAgent-Desktop-External-7200RPM/dp/B000NZOBYS/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1231929059&sr=8-6
and it's fine and has been for months.
Or this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Essential-500GB-External/dp/B000WP0NM8/ref=dp_cp_ob_ce_title_0/275-0951393-0790355?ie=UTF8&qid=1231929059&sr=8-6 I've not got this particular model but have another Western digital drive which again has been fine.0 -
In PC Answers last month, the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB came out at 95%, it was the highest rank of those on test. Price around £105. It also had a 5 year warranty, one of the highest being offered. My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0
