Hotpoint -5 Year 'free' Parts Warranty

All Hotpoint appliances are sold with a 1 year parts and labour and 5 year parts only warranty. The big thing not revealed on the blurb is that to utilise the 5 year warranty a charge of £89.00 is made for each and every repair. Ironicallywhen purchasing the item there is an offer to purchase a 5 year warranty for £69.00 from Domestic and General. This defies logic. It would appear that the offer of the 'free' 5 year warranty is not really worth the paper it is written on. My own recent experience when I wanted to use the 5 year guarantee on a freezer, less than 5 years old, was to be told that the part required was obsolete and I must still pay the call out charge!!! I am now trying with difficulty to sort this out with Hotpoint.

You could well have a case for going back to the retailer as under the sale of goods act something like a freezer should be expected to last more than 5 years. And I'm pretty sure that under the sale of goods act you can go back up to 6 years.
Someone else on here can give more details but don't throw the towel in, there could me a lot more in your favour than just the Hotpoint callout charge. A replacement or refund if it isn't repairable.0
