Item Arrived with no postage label on.

I have not been in this situation before, but have had an email from a buyer to say their item has arrived with no postage label on.

The item was sent 1st Class Recorded.

She is saying her sorting office are asking for her to pay the postage costs & a handling fee.

I have proof that I paid for postage, I am not sure if it was the lady at the P/O as she wasn't really paying attention when she was doing my parcels, or lost in transit, but the buyer says there is no sign of it been ripped off etc..

If I send her my receipt, will she be able to show RM and therefore not have to pay?

Thanks in advance.

Best way here to keep buyer happy and avoid poor feedback is to refund the full amount of postage and handling fee charged by the Royal mail at your buyers end. You can scan across the POP if you wish, but it is unlikely the PO will release the parcel without payment and will just expect the sender (you) to claim back the costs from RM later.

This has happened to me on several occasions and after I have refunded the buyer with a full explanation I then just reclaim my payment (plus handling fee) back from Royal mail on the usual claim form.

  • Thanks I will do that, the buyer fortunately has said to me she will leave me good f/b anyway. :-)
  • After 5 yrs of selling, as I said this is the 1st time it has happened to me, by the sounds of your post, it is not uncommon!

I had a bad run last year when due to long hours on a new work contract I was taking my parcels to a sorting office in the evening. They sometimes wrote the postage details on each parcel, charged me gave me a POP then shoved the whole lot in the post without remembering to actually stick the stamps on.

Then when the rules changed about the PO using labels for large letter items under 100g all my items that at the time were sent in plastic mailing envelopes had the stamps fall off en route.

I have since changed my packaging and luckily haven't had to resort to late night postings at the sorting office for a while.

  • Incidentally,this was a large letter.

Depending on how much stuff I have, I leave it or wait at the P/O, on this ocassion I waited.

My stuff is posted in brown jiffy bags, it would have been obvious if it had been torn off or ripped in transit.

So I am pretty sure it was at the P/O, the lady must not have stuck the label on at all.

    Thanks for your help :-)
