had an accident wi the laptop, long story short, the daughter and me were mucking around and we spilled water over it, it the went out with a crackle and a bleep, swithched itself off and takes about 20 attempts switching it on and off to get it to fire up, anyway i put a claim in with my insurance who stated the claim may not be upheld...i mean i have full ins with old for new and accidental cover...why on earth would it not be covered? can i do them for mis-selling policy or breach of contract or somthing should they refuse,? they have also stated they require an engineers report at £40 which i have told them i will be claiming back, my insurance is with northern rock although i dunno whoo underwrites it offhand

The only way to check is by looking at your policy - look under exclusions What does it say?
My accidental damage clause definately excludes damage to items which are portable.
You can't sue them for mis selling unless you can prove you wanted cover for accidental damage to portable items, but they failed to act on your instruction.
Regardless of this if you asked for this cover and failed to check the policy before accepting they could argue you've accpeted the policy terms as you have paid premiums.0 -
You need to find out why it might not be upheld.
It is an exclusion of cover or do they think your claim is fraudulent or what?
There are avenues for complaints but you need to find out the reason.
If it's excluded and it's in you policy booklet and you didn't read it - then tough you are not covered, on the other hand they might be completely wrong.0 -
yeah but if they are insuring them for being accident damage away from the home then i presume they know they are portable, they are sending out a copy of the policvy today so i'll keep you updated0
