School Term Time Fines

I think you mentioned something else - namely that you are also getting married.
Just emphasise that fact. You are going abroad to get married and are taking your children with you.
Ignore the 'pretend they are ill' comments. Just go with the above. Surely no school would enforce a fine for taking time off for a childs parents wedding? If they do, so be it.0 -

Read the thread again. It was another poster (rachfriar78) who is getting married.0 -
How old are your children, mine is 5 and we are officially allowed to take our children out of school for 10 days per school year without being fined. 1 friends mother says you can get away with 15 days as the paperwork and hassle for the school to fill in the forms are too much trouble but i don't know how true this is. I thought the fine was £100 which i would have paid if i needed more than my 10 days but i asked how much the fine was and was told £250 which i was shocked at.
I also work in the travel industry and i have to pay inflated school hols prices so please don't shout at us as its them at the top that govern prices.
Also its like all other businesses really if the demand is there the price is dearer ie flowers for valentines day, mothers day etc, turkeys at christmas, need i go on.
Shimmershelly have you actually asked the head mistress as they may just have sent a standard letter round to try and scare parents from taking them out of school, just a thought0 -
Yeah its me getting married. got my hol form other day so need to fill in, apparently according to the school office it should be authorised, if not i'm still going hehe.Ahh, I see. Can't they go to rachfriar's wedding then?
Yeah shimmer come to my wedding, you are away same time as me lol x0 -
Living in an area with a high Asian community (mainly from Pakistan and Bangladesh) it annoys me intensely that their children are allowed out of school for a number of weeks (never just 1 or 2) to return to the country of their parents birth without ever falling foul of the authorities who never seem to question it or inflict fines. Yet anyone who's family has been indiginous in this country for many generations and tries to take their children on holiday in school time are hounded by these educational Nazis. It's obviously racism in reverse.
I thought there was a law that said you could take your children out of school for up to 2 weeks per year. I accept that it should be avoided at exam times etc. but if the child is on top of his/her work there shouldn't be any problems.Age & Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth & Enthusiasm !!

We wanted to go away first May Bank holiday just for the weekend. We was going to Devon and as we live in South London it was obviously better to go lunch time. We was also taking my MIL who was recently bereaved to take her mind off things.
Three boys were at same primary school and school had issued letters stating no time off for holidays, however in I go and ask v nicely may they please have just the Friday afternoon off. That was fine they said!!
Then i call DD high school and because I hadn't had any experiance of this with the highschool just asked how I went about taking her out of school for the afternoon. Got told VERY snootly that time off for holidays was not allowed in any circumstances. Luckly hadn't given my name so DD had an ortho appointment that afternoon!!!!
I do make a rule of not pulling them out of school unless I can help it, esp once they reach high school ( 3 of them now in high school) Tho have yet to ask twins highschool what their policy is and they're now in yr8!!!
This was 5 yrs ago, so it's not a new ruling in some schools.0
