TD4? Or 1.8 Petrol?
Did you have it service by an authorised dealer?0 -
You could have independantly assessed, as to the cause of it failing. You might be able to link it with the last service they did. (or more to the point *should have done). Belt snap?0
-
its a 1.8 petrol, serviced by landrover november 2004 so a few months overdue.0

It snapped recently 3 months outside warranty, which would have been invalid anyway as you hadn't had the last service, assuming it was one service req'd per year. It could be that the timing belt was not part of the service for the 2004 service and it would probably have been part of this service had you taken it for service.
Sorry sounds like you won't get anything from warranty. What has actually happened to the Engine? If it is belt snap it may be bad news but then again if there are safety features built in the damage may not be too great.0 -
Belt snapped?
Depending on damage the cheapest way will probably be to source another complete engine and get a small time garage to fit it for you. Easy job for the garage.Happy chappy0 -
I agree if the engine is really gone...bad expensive damage. Try someone like Ivor Searle

Was it the head gasket? If so, this is a known problem with the Rover 1.8 K-Series engine. It happend about 2 years ago to my father-in-law who had a R-plate Freelander.
The cost to repair was over £3000, but in the end either Landrover or Rover (hopefully Landrover as Rover are now dead and buried!) did reimburse him £1500 or so. I think that covered the cost of the engine but not the labour, or something like that. This was on an R-plate so it was a few YEARS out of warranty.
So if it was the head gasket, keep pursuing them, as it is an inherent fault with the design of the engine and they have paid out for it in the past.0 -
thanks for all your replies. we are having it towed to our landrover garage tomorrow who have said that they may pay part of it, depending what they find once theyve looked at it. ive been looking on other web forums and it seems they sometimes pay 100% for engine damage if you push them enough !0

http://www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties clik Stephen Rhodes e mail him.
He's the Consumer Guru & on the air weekdays 10am - 1pm. Very fair in help advice & getting things sorted.
You WILL need to talk on the radio, but not a problem if you're out of the Beds/Herts/Bucks areas.
As Nej said, assume head gasket & it is VERY well known problem!!
Fingers crossed!!
