tracing an insurance company HELP

I hope this is in the right forum, I am trying to trace a copmpany on behalf of my girlfriend. A few years ago she was swindled out of some insurance or assurance policy that was in her name, by her aunt.
I don't know if she is ever ging to have a chance of getting the money back but it might help if we could trace the company the policy was with.
we don;t have much to go on as she was only a kid when the payments were being made but here is what she can remember
We are looking at a period between 1976 and 1982
A person would call round to collect the money for the policy (a bit like the man from the pru )
The policy book was pink and about the size of a small note book, with a sort of diamond logo on it.
does this ring any bells to anyone
any ideas greatly appreciated

Needle in a haystack springs to mind, but this might be a start:
Contact the FSA to find out which companies hold records of "industrial branch" policies. These are the ones collected in cash at the door. OR just to make sure get a list of every company.
Write to these companies with your gilfirends details, name, age, date of birth & addresses that the money would have been sold in or collected at. It would be als ohelpful to supply the details of the donor (the adult set up on the policy on behslf of a child)
Many pollicies predate computer records and are kept in huge storage places so need a manual trace that can take some time.
If a record exixts, they will hopefully tell you about whether the polict is stil live, lapsed, paid up or paid out on.
Good luck!0
