Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I don't think you are really interested in this job .My neighbour commutes from Spain weekly coming home Fridays and going out on Sunday evenings.Anybody would be honoured having the chance to work for Martin.Happy climbing F.F.Fan,
    a fellow ex pat.
  • I'd love to apply for this, but I live in Coventry which Martin's team seem to think isn't commutable from Shepherd's Bush (I've applied for other MSE jobs, but never heard anything).

Those hours aren't bad, and are achievable commuting from Coventry as well.

Maybe they know it's commutable, but they aren't paying enough to cover the train fares?
  • Is the position for a current vacancy or can you wait til June so I can finish my Maths degree first?

Ah, but I'd take the coach - it's slower, but cheaper and I'm guaranteed to get a seat.

There's (currently) no legal limit as to how many people an operator can put on a train - there is a limit on the coach.

Commuting every day on the coach... !
I think by Wednesday of each week I'd be sleeping at my desk

I sent a cover letter and my CV last week via email. I haven't heard from them yet. At the very least, they should give me a refusal notice.

Is it common not to get any response?

YOu will get a response one way or another - the job is open for another few days and no applications have been looked at yet :)
