Reprimand or Caution relevant to car insurance?

Hi there, wondering if any of you out there might be able to help me help a friend. Does a reprimand or caution need to be declared on your car insurance. They are not convictions however they do ask for any other criminal offenses so would that mean that it is relevant (these are unspent) I was looking at one of the acts (cant remember what one now) but it does state that " Cautions,
reprimands and final warnings are considered spent immediately they are given". Or something along those lines.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The relevant piece of legislation is the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Scroll down the page to the heading 'Cautions'. If it was just a caution your friend doesn't need to disclose it.

You would not have to declare a caution only actual offences. If you get stopped by the police and they slap your wrist that is the end of it unless they actually issue you with a fine and/or penalty points then you do have to declare them for 5 years.
  • Thanks for the quick replys!,

Raskazz... Idid find that fbit of info on my travels however this part "
Sometimes people are asked if they have a 'criminal record'. This is a less precise term, but it is usually understood to mean convictions. So people who are asked if they have a 'criminal record' may also answer 'no' if they have no convictions." But it doesnt say about criminal offenses.

    Thanks
  • Just an update for you.. I contacted one insurance company and asked the question and they said.... "criminal convictions only". So this suggests that reprimands and cautions are clear since they are not convictions. I am suggesting that he contacts his insurance company and gets a letter confirming that fact since there is no point driving around with what could be invalid insurance, not to mention it would put his mind at rest.

    Thanks
